As a multi-instrumentalist specializing in saxophones, flutes, clarinets, oboes, and bassoon, Paul Carter plays in numerous Musical Theater Pits, Recording Studios, Rock, Folk, Pop, Funk, Soul, R&B, Hip Hop and Big Bands across the country. Starting his career at the age of 13 while touring with the Toronto All-Star Big Band he played alongside influential musicians such as Benny Golson (Mellon Living Legend Legacy Award winning saxophonist, composer), Larry Elghart (American Bandstand composer, Columbia Records), Oliver Jones (Juno Award winning jazz pianist), Howard Cable (Composer of the Hockey Night in Canada Theme), Jackie Richardson (The Gospel According to the Blues, The Doodlbops and Sins of the Father), Phil Nimmons (Juno Award winning Jazz clarinetist), John Dankworth (The Avengers Television composer), and Cleo Laine (Grammy award winning Jazz, Pop, Classical vocalist).

For many years Paul contributed recordings for Zoomer Radio AM 740 as well as City TV, made multiple appearances on Breakfast Television, Canada AM, Vinyl Cafe and has performed at countless Jazz Festivals across Canada and the United States. Recently he's played on recordings for Ostereo, Walt Disney and Atlantic Records. In 2016 Paul performed on the live recording of Home: Montreal composed by Beth Mckenna which went on to win the Prix D'Opus for Best Jazz Performance of the Year as well as be named in the Top 10 Jazz Albums of the Year by the CBC. He recorded on the critically acclaimed album The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz which was named in the Top 10 Cast Recordings of the Year by LondonTheater.co.uk. In 2018 Paul won the Félix for Show of the Year for his work on Demain Matin, Montreal M'Attend.

When Paul isn’t performing he's arranging or working with many schools, music camps, community programs, and studios in Toronto and Montreal as a clinician, private teacher and Band Leader.
